Ungoliant and Morgoth by Skinny22 Ungoliant and Morgoth by Skinny22
In The Silmarillion, Ungoliant was an evil spirit in the form of a spider who dwelt in Avathar in the First Age.

Morgoth(originally Melkor) was the most powerful of the Ainur, but turning to darkness, became Morgoth, the "great enemy", the ultimate antagonist of Arda, from whom all evil in the world of Middle-earth ultimately stems.

Ungoliant aided Morgoth in his attack on the Two Trees of Valinor; she drained the Trees of their sap and poisoned them after Melkor wounded them.
She grew so large and powerful that Morgoth himself was afraid.
Morgoth gave her many gems of the Noldor, but withheld the Silmarils in his right hand. He refused to give them to the Great Spider to be devoured, for he desired them greatly.
Ungoliant might have either slain Morgoth or encaged him in her darkness in the ensuing battle, but Morgoth gave a great cry of fear that echoed over all of Beleriand, including the deep pits of Angband.
Hearing his cry, the Balrogs came and saved their master, scourging the spider with their whips and causing Ungoliant to flee to the Ered Gorgoroth in Beleriand.

This is a copy of John Howe's painting, with some details changed.
Pencil and paper, then photoshop.

They say that she fled from Morgoth's balrogs, and escaped. Then she got a lot of 'childeren' (including Shelob) It is said she later went far south, where legend has it, in her last hunger, she devoured herself.

I like how Ungoliant is just barely keeping her form as a spider, and all sorts of un-spidery details a just popping up all over her body.

Maybe it would be wise to note that this is a copy of John Howe's painting.

Yes, that's true. But I don't think they are going to prosecute me, lol.
The pic is in FAN ART.

Merlkir is right, a legal note in description is the right way to go. Fan art section or not it is a copy.

Sure thing, I'm just saying that it's common custom to mention the original and the author, that's all.
